About Vancouver Tamilians Society

Connecting Tamils & Celebrating Culture Across British Columbia

The Vancouver Tamilians Society Canada is a registered non-profit society in British Columbia, Canada. We are a community-based organization that supports and celebrates the growing Tamil community in Vancouver and throughout the Lower Mainland. Our mission is to connect Tamils in British Columbia, preserve our cultural heritage, and create a platform for Tamil individuals and families to thrive socially, culturally, and educationally.

As one of the most active Tamil organizations in Vancouver, we are committed to ensuring that Tamil traditions, language, and values are passed on to future generations. Whether you're based in Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Delta, Langley, New Westminster, Coquitlam, White Rock, or right here in Vancouver, the Vancouver Tamilians Society (VTS) is your local hub for all things Tamil.

What We Do

As a dedicated Tamil cultural group in BC, we bring together Tamil people in Vancouver and across the province through a wide range of community initiatives and events, including:

  • Tamil cultural events in Vancouver, such as Pongal celebrations, Tamil New Year (Chithirai Thiruvizha), Deepavali festivals, Tamil cultural nights, and other Tamil festivals in BC

  • Promoting Tamil culture in Canada through educational and social programming

  • Sharing the history of Tamils in Vancouver and showcasing Tamil traditions in modern Canada

  • Highlighting upcoming Tamil events in Vancouver and surrounding areas

  • Encouraging Tamil community support in Vancouver and building meaningful connections for individuals and families

  • Providing essential resources and guidance for Tamil immigrants in BC to ease their transition and foster long-term support

Expanding Our Reach Across the Lower Mainland

The Vancouver Tamilians Society proudly brings together Tamils across British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, fostering unity through culture, education, and service.

Our growing network includes Tamil communities in:

Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Delta, Langley, Coquitlam, New Westminster, White Rock, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Port Moody.

Wherever you live, our aim remains the same: to ensure every Tamil person in the Lower Mainland feels seen, supported, and connected to their culture and community.

Our Future Plans

As we continue to grow, we’re planning new initiatives to further serve the community and preserve Tamil heritage in BC. Upcoming programs include:

  • Launching Tamil language classes in Vancouver and a Tamil school for kids to support Tamil language preservation

  • Creating a Tamil youth organization in Vancouver, with resources and mentorship for Tamil students in BC

  • Developing cultural education programs focused on Tamil heritage for children

  • Organizing structured volunteer opportunities during Tamil events and festivals

  • Expanding community support services and guidance for Tamil immigrants across the Lower Mainland

These plans reflect our ongoing commitment to cultural preservation, youth empowerment, and community development for Tamils across British Columbia.

Our History

It was Sommi's Mother Pushapa's Dream to start a community for Tamil people in Vancouver,  During her trip in 2022 Summer, to bring families together to celebrate, which Sommi made it possible in 2023,November!
